Arachno-furniture!
Oh yes… an ultra stylish Vladimir Kagan ‘spider table’, spinning its web of glass…
Formed from two solid teak interlocking sections and a floating glass top, these striking tables were produced in Denmark by Sika Møbler during the 1960s, and have become somewhat of a design classic with those spiky aesthetics!
Vladimir Kagan was a highly regarded American furniture designer known for mid-century modern furniture with ‘Sinuous wooden frame characteristics’. His style was influenced by nature and the Bauhaus movement, with an emphasis on comfort and functionality. In 2009 he was inducted in the Interior Designer Hall of Fame, 62 years after he started designing and producing furniture.
I love these tables and I have one in my own living room, but this example here is, amazingly, in near mint condition. The glass is virtually scratch-free and the legs show little to no signs of wear.
Remarkably well preserved… perhaps it‘s been living in an attic with the other spiders…
