The Name…

Well it’s Ben actually, but Death By Teak was inspired by a visit to mid-century furniture shop piled high with beautiful but ubiquitous teak sideboards.

‘This is nice,’ I thought, ‘but it’s like death by teak in here.’

And I wanted to do things a bit differently…

The product…

My aim is to source some of the best and more obscure pieces from the past century. l’m drawn to sculptural objects and good design, particularly Bauhaus, Scandinavian and mid-century Modernism, although anything beautiful or unusual with great form and function is likely to catch my eye.
It’s not only teak I sell, but this wood type is synonymous with mid-century furniture so you’ll find plenty of it here amongst some of the most interesting designs from the 20th Century.
I search through hundreds of items before finding something I like enough to buy, and I only deal in pieces that I would happily have in my own home.
So be assured that every item I sell is something I have personally selected and love… because if I don’t sell it then it I may well end up living with it!

The ethos…

I won’t preach about green credentials but in a world of fast fashion and flat-pack furniture, surely reuse, restoration and preservation is the way forward.
Buy well and buy once.. it’ll last you a lifetime.
