Provenance: initialled in sculpture and estate stamp on the base.
Previously part of a private collection at the Katherine House Gallery, Uk.

Artist biography:

Born in Northampton, England, Bertram Eaton worked for a leather manufacturer in the Nene Vallery, and by the late 1930s had become interested in modern sculpture, teaching himself to carve in wood.

In the 1940s he became friends with revered sculptor Robert Adams, and inspired by his work and success he began to make contact with London galleries, leading to his first one man show at the Galerie Apollinaire in 1950.
Eaton went on to exhibit at the London Group, the Groupe Espace, the Royal Scottish Academy, and at various other London galleries. He showed regularly at the annual exhibition of the Northampton Town and County Art Society, and served as its President between 1968-9.
In 1975 he had his second solo exhibition at the Central Art Gallery, Northampton.

A touring exhibition of Eaton’s work was organised soon after his death by East Midlands Arts in 1980, which was accompanied by an exhibition catalogue: ‘Bertram Eaton. A Northamptonshire Sculptor’, by Ian Mayes.
