A classy Carstens Tönnieshof vase, with an awesome blue and black alien-hieroglyphic glaze.
From the ‘Ankara’ series, which was introduced in 1963 and ran until 1969, I believe the decor is the work of Helmut Scholtis, and is an example of the wax reduction technique that Carstens and other German ceramicists used during the 1960s.
A nice example and a lovely shape, it comes in excellent, undamaged condition.
