Description
A thoroughly modernist 1930s open bookcase, by Heal & Son.
This incredible asymmetrical design is constructed from beautifully figured English oak, and a bleached oak version was featured in the 1933 Heal’s catalogue, ‘Economy with a difference’ (see final pic).
The exquisite woodgrain on the back panel is a real work of art, and continues on the reverse which is inscribed ‘934 O.H. KENT’.
A timeless British design looking as slick today as it did almost 100 years ago, it comes in very good original condition with only a little wear and some minor warping to the solid oak shelves (specifically the very top left section has a slight ‘dip’ – see pics).
