Difficult to put an age on this handsome chap…
The mutton chops and tache on this death mask / sculpture look decidedly 19th Century, but I suspect it may be later than that… and I do know a few blokes in East London still rocking this look!
Cast from plaster and mounted on a solid marble base, the detail is pretty remarkable, with hair, eyelashes and facial blemishes all clearly visible.
I’m reluctant to comment further as he may be someone’s relative… but an eerie and magnetic piece which catches your attention as soon as you enter the room.
In good vintage condition with some wear and signs or repair to the marble base.
