Description

This awesome piece of 1940s design was produced by West Midlands engineering firm, Rubery Owen, and is known as the ‘Blade’ stool due those distinctive, sculptural legs.

Some were made for the Royal Air Force and Air Ministry, while their sturdy, near indestructible build quality also made them popular in factories and industrial settings.

A spaghetti junction of twisted metal surrounds a threaded central rod, which supports an adjustable, solid elm seat.
The legs have taken on a beautiful gunmetal grey patina, while the hand-shaped seat has worn to a soft satin sheen.

Surely this is every furniture restorer’s dream… well it was for me anyway, and I have another version in my workshop which has the addition of a back rest.
It’s a favourite possession of mine and one of the few things I have that isn’t for sale.

But this beauty here is very much up for grabs, and ready to make someone else’s industrial dream come true!
