These scratch-built wooden toys were often produced as home projects or by local crafts people throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, and can be found in a variety of different styles. They are now considered little works of folk art and are highly collectible.
This larger example has a beautiful ebonised finish and an unusual crimped collar which has retained it’s original coral pink paintwork, while its hinged joints allow the head, ears, legs and tail to all move independently.
Dating from the early 20th century, it comes in original clean vintage condition with just the right amount of wear.
