Description
An awesome signed tile panel by renowned 20th Century London artist, Ron Hitchins (1926-2019)
Hitchins was a fascinating character, who in his early life embellished and sold shirts on the markets of East London and practiced flamenco dancing, which was a huge passion of his.
In the 1950s he channeled his talents into creating unique artworks from his lively home in Hackney.
He often used these Picasso and Hepworth inspired tiles to adorn mirrors and picture frames and even a four-poster bed, while others were incorporated into panels and wall reliefs.
Hitchins led a long, colourful and unconventional life until his death in 2019 at the age of 93, and his art reflects a snapshot in London’s history where creativity and freedom of expression were flourishing.
These 28 tiles were handcrafted by the great man and fired in a kiln in the basement of his East London home. Each one is a little work of art in its own right… as unique as the man himself.
