Description
Pretend you’re living in the future with this rare pair of Durlston Designs space-age lamps…
Tinted acrylic domes ‘float’ above gleaming chrome bases, which catch the light beautifully when lit. Pair them with these vintage style filament bulbs to complete the ethereal jellyfish look!
Little is known about enigmatic British firm Durlston Designs Ltd, but you may be familiar with their Danish style vanity mirrors from the 1960s & 70s.
Based in Hersham, Surrey, their chief designer was Owen F Thomas, and although you’ll often see some of their designs attributed Robert Welch, I read an interesting article @modernforms in which both the son and business partner of Thomas stated they were not aware of a Welch connection to the company.
These large and super stylish lamps likely date from the late 1960s, come in very good vintage condition with only minor wear, and are each complete with an original manufacturer’s label on the base!
H37cm x W40cm (base diameter 30.5cm)
Very good vintage condition. Minor pitting to the bases and one base has two small areas of corrosion (pictured). Minor light scratching to the acrylic shades.
Both lamps present beautifully.
Price is for the pair. Bulbs not included.
Free UK delivery included in price, and please do contact me with any queries or to arrange a viewing in London SE24.
