Description
A great pretender?
The easiest way to judge the age of something is often by checking its screws and fixings… difficult when there’s just a single bolt on its base!
This super sculptural parametric mannequin is constructed from shaped plywood sections which each rotate independently around a central spine.
Originally acquired from a dealer who bought and sold props for the TV & Film industry, it was said to be a dressmaker’s mannequin, reclaimed from a London boutique in the 1950s.
It’s possible I guess, but that single (and not quite rusty enough) nut on the underside coupled with the lack of wear on its base, leads me to suspect this is a later artist made or commissioned piece.
The rubber feet are definitely new…added by yours truly to protect my G-Plan console table!
Whatever its origin it’s an incredible piece with immense presence, and would work equally well in a commercial or residential setting.
