I can’t resist a wooden mutt, and here’s a really nice early example from the late 19th Century…
Produced as home projects or by local crafts people, these articulated scratch-built toys were popular before the era of mass production and come in a variety of different styles, but often with that distinctive square collar. They’re now highly collectible and considered little works of folk art.
This charming example has bags of character and a flashy gold coloured collar, while its hinged joints allow the head, ears, legs and tail to all move independently!
Maximum dimensions: H22cm (toes to ears) x L33.5cm (nose to tail) x W6.5cm
